The Gathering
Vyce to meet you

Some of the crew is invited to attend a conference/meet and greet between CPG and the Vampire Nation (with some guests).

The conference is set to take place over two days and allow the two groups to create points of contact to help with further negotiations. Additionally it is designed to help air any questions or concerns that either side may have.

The conference is being held on Vyce Station and is not being announced to the public. CPG is handling the security and is being very careful to not screw anything up, lest they be shown incapable of smooth negotiations with outside powers.

Eenie Meenie...

When the crew get their new Frenzy-class ship docked and get up to command they find that there are a few messages waiting for them.

  • One of the Raugraf’s contacts is asking when his team might be able to transport the CPG diplomats to their meeting with representitives of The Vampire Nation
  • Tyger’s office wishes to know when their new Artificial Blood will be cleared to ship.
  • Jerome Ast the manager they hired to run their business called to let them know that he isn’t having any trouble finding ships looking for safe and reliable work, but lots of clients are dubious about the newly created shipping company.
  • Jason Dross called to ask when they might be able to get their ship equipped to detect the residual energy a CE Teleport device leaves when it has been used.
  • Kangi Maza Seskatonkwa’s former apprentice had called with an urgent matter he wished to discuss, but wouldn’t say more in his message.

A quick scan of the vortex that scoped up their ship shows that it seems to be coming from the hole drilled into the floor of the Dismal Void and goes almost straight towards The Bilex System

Dem Bones (part 3)
Onward and Upward!

The crew, with the help of a mining laser, disposed of the blood slavers inside the building and then moved on to find Vaeriis. After a bit of work they were able to track him down in the canyon. When confronted by the crew Vaeriis recognized Mattias, the Raugraf and Carter from their raid on the Blood Slaver station and seemed to be afraid of them. After putting up some resistance to their questions they attacked him and he retreated into the soil. There were, however, able to dig up the earth enough to disrupt him and then chase him down and finish the job.

When they returned to the nameless Kerberos they gave him the communicator and he gave them the tome, which seemed to be legit. He did not want the tracking cylinder and asked them to take it with them.

They hijacked the Blood Slaver ship with the drill on it and flew it across to The Mines of Marzt, and in doing so disturbed the bones and seemed to trigger a transformation in the Kerberos, his skin turned pale and he let out a howl that they could hear inside the ship. He followed them as they flew across his domain, but stayed on the shore as they crossed the river.

Once they reached the other side they heard a rumbling which increased until one of the Four Men appeared and retrieved the drill, taking it off the ship and growing until he was tall enough to use it. He then picked it up by it’s base and holding his arms straight out began to ship his hands and the drill, making a new tunnel.

The crew then flew their new ship out the tunnel and back to the Dismal Void where they had left the Dead Dreaming. However, to their surprise the Dead Dreaming was instead slowly spiraling away from them in space. They were able to pull their ship out of the vortex that seemed to have scooped it up.

Dem Bones (part 2)
Somethings not quite right...

The Crew have made it to The Realm of Rattling Bones. They investigate the rubble they saw from across the river and it appears that it fell from a hole in the ceiling. There is a large scorch mark in the sand and bones and many deep grooves in the sand. There are also a few bits of what appear to be hull fragments. The Bones definitely look disturbed.

In the distance they can see a few structures that are the same red brown color of the sand.

Outcome

The crew investigated the rubble when Mattias looked into the past he saw a frenzy class ship drill a hole from the ceiling and another one fly out after it. The ship without the drill stayed around and after a bit a giant eight legged creature made of bone with a long tail and giant pincers. The ship harpooned it and lifted it off into the hole.

Carter talked to one of the ghosts that had been following them and learned that the Kerberos of the domain was gone. To test a theory and cuz he’s a swell guy he gave the ghost water. A few moments later a shimmering appeared in the sand and came towards the party. The ridge of sand circled around the party and something looking close, but not quite like a blood slaver leapt out of the sand and grabbed the ghost who had drunk.

The man then appeared and told Carter that by giving the ghost a drink he too had broken the rules and after some awkward conversation demanded that Carter find Vaeriis and bring back his communication device.

The Crew went on to investigate the buildings. They discovered they were made out of bricks of melted ground which had hardened and then been cut. They found a quarry near by and Stampedes discovered that there were blood slavers lounging around in one of the buildings. After a scuffle they closed the door and were again confronted by the sand swimming man. He seemed a bit upset and confused and eventually said that he would tell them where the tome was if they dealt with the blood slavers as they were confusing him.

Over the Rivers and through the Realms, to a Blood Slaver Base we go!

The Crew takes the quickest way they can find to get to the Blood Slaver staging area. This means they will be flying through some of the less charted areas of the Dismal Void. Once they reach the coordinates they will have to fly into the underworld and cross a river to get to The Realm of Rattling Bones where Overseer Bradley said the Blood Slaver staging ground was located.

Outcome
The crew flew through the Dismal Void with some oddities, a space condensing phenomenon and some flying lights. Upon reaching the coordinates Bradley gave them they discovered a gaping hole in the autochthonous depths with debris presumably from the digging floating in the void. Venturing into the hole they entered The Mines of Marzt. The tunnel seemed be to freshly dug. They made a deal with the Four Men to return the mining contraption now located in The Realm of Rattling Bones in exchange for being shown to The River of Blood which they need to cross to get to The Realm of Rattling Bones where the camp is supposed to be. After declining a ferryman for a price too high (a random memory) they found another ferryman who only wanted a token of their home or homeland and crossed the river.

When it rains...

The crew face a number of choices and must decide how to proceed!

Outcome
Being given many choices of what to pursue the crew decided to approach Overseer Bradley about joining their orginization and as a test run are going to be looking to acquire a tome the Blood Slavers are keeping at a base of theirs they have established in the Dismal Void realm of Rattling Bones

Daedalus' Dream (part 1)
You all meet in a tavern...

As they have been working the past few weeks the party have been trying to find out anything they can about the weapon that attacked the Vampire Nation homeworld’s sun. And it seems they may have a lead.

As Seskatonkwa was investigating what happened to his tribe’s expedition he learned about a weapons test that seems to match what happened to the sun. Everything he could determine about it seems to indicate that the weapon was designed by Daedalus an infamous Celestial Empire researcher. Aarovin’s mentor had developed a fascination around Daedalus and believes during the recent chaos in the CE he was able to obtain the location of his research laboratory. The crew departs hoping to find the ship, the weapon or some information about it.

Picking up the pieces

With the [Stygian Shard] in hand the crew of the Dead Dreaming made their way out of the Research Station. Gearalt Rowan found the [Stygian Shard] and the bucket he was carrying it in were getting cold and heavy in his arm. He gave them to Raugraf Ordulf and the Raugraf seemed unaffected by the cold. As they were leaving an explosion rocked the station and many doors sealed themselves shut. On their way to their ship Gearalt Rowan sensed the presence of ‘beings’ on the other side of the door. The crew opened it to find three Blood Slavers who they fought off handily. They were then able to make it to their ship where they found a number of station staff desperate to escape. They brought them on board, but kept an eye on them. As they made their way out of the station they saw flames leaping from a gaping hole in the station seemingly burning in space.

Once back in their ship and away from the station they took stock of the situation. It appeared that the Blood Slavers were putting up a fight, but not enough of one to drive back all those who had risen up against them. As they were debating if they should stay or leave they noticed something odd was happening to the Sun. A quick scan revealed a small sleek ship positioned near the sun firing some sort of beam at it. Mattias tried to get in contact with Chloe Quincy to see if she knew anything about the ship and to see if she was on it. Trenton answered instead and informed Mattias Quincy that his daughter was still unavailable due to her promotion. He also advised them to leave the system.

Desiring to act quickly and their ship being at least 30 minutes travel time to the other ship Mattias got in contact with Lauren Anders and asked her to send him and a bomb to where the ship was located. She seemed indifferent to the destruction of the sun, Vampire Nation homeworld and all those still living on it. However, she consented after Mattias agreed that he’d owe her another favor. Before initiating his plan he used the same trick he’d used to call Lauren to try and get in contact with Chloe. She answered and seemed a bit surprised, but happy to see him. She started to tell him about her promotion before he cut her off and asked where she was. Before she could answer Trenton‘s image replaced her image on the link. He apologized for the disruption and asked if Mattias had any other questions for him. Mattias asked if the ship destroying the sun in the system was theirs as he was planning on destroying it. Trenton politely excused himself after that as he had some other business to attend to. After only a few more seconds the mystery ship vanished completely (yes, this is retconned) and Mattias didn’t go through with the his deal with Lauren. After the ship left the sun began to expand very quickly, none of the crew were able to determine if this would continue at the same rate.

After a few more minutes 8 Shadow Dredger ships appeared and offered to help set up efforts to migrate the people of The Vampire Nation homeworld to other planets. Carter Altman had informed them that something was happening and their seers had determined that this was the best way that they could help.

The crew spent the next few hours analyzing the Sun’s expansion and coordinating with The Shadow Dredgers and The Vampire Nation with Carter and the Raugraf taking point. After an hour or so the sun’s expansion slowed dramatically and they were able to determine that it would continue to expand, but it would only threaten the homeworld after many months, likely a year. Most of the fighting had died off as once it became clear that they were loosing the Blood Slavers in unison began making their way towards spaceports fighting with a frenzy. Most of them stayed behind to ensure that specific Blood Slavers made it onto ship and that the ships were able to get off the planet. Once off the planet the ships made straight for the Stygian Gate. With the majority of the attacking ships focused on the planet the dozen or so Blood Slaver ships were able to make it to the gate with relative ease. A few ships followed them through and reported that once through they scattered in all directions avoiding the commonly traveled paths of the Dismal Void.

When the Raugraf Ordulf attempted to set the bucket carrying the [Stygian Shard] down he found that his hand was no longer responding to his commands and that his arm had gone numb. Once he gets the shard out of the bucket he regains control of his hand over the course of an hour.

The Shadow Dredgers and anyone the party contacts confirm that the Stygian Gates seem to be functioning normally and there have been no reports of anyone turning into a blood slaver once the crew retrieved the shard.

Aftermath

The crew parted ways temporarily after things settled down. Mattias to secret away the [Stygian Shard]. Carter and the Raugraf to help cement relations between the blood slavers and to help with the evacuation plans. Gearalt went looking for someone who might know what had happened to his eye. Vincent returned to Gelphi to work with his Silver Ladder contacts.

As things begin to settle down with the Vampires and the Shadow Dredgers Carter is asked by Jason Dross to help see what the Vampire scholar Aarovin can make of some of the artifacts left by the Lords of Mercy. Mattias is approached by a stranger named Seskatonkwa who offers to trade information about what he believes may have been a weapons test of the weapon used on the Vampire Nation homeworld’s sun for help locating a lost expedition his tribe sent.

From the Shadows (part 7)
Where's my get-away car?

Previously on Shadows in the Void:
After meeting up with their new contact, Raugraf Ordulf, the crew infiltrated/fought their way to where the [Stygian Shard] was being kept.
There they found a group of presumed mages ignoring all else and painstakingly re-painting runes on the walls and floors.
After they entered the room fiery symbols lined the floor behind then and were giving off intense heat. Further investigation led them to believe that it was being powered by a demon bound in a ritual.

Gearalt Rowan became impatient and attempted to disrupt the painting, getting paint on himself and throwing one of the painters across the room into the [Stygian Shard]. He was frozen in place for a while and then seemed to ‘get better’. Investigating further the crew noticed that the paint seemed to have drawn it’s self into runes on his face and clouded up one of his eyes. The eye cleared after a bit to reveal a city being bombed.

They decided to flood the room to get rid of the paint, which produced quite a bit of steam. Fogging up the room.
EspĂrito then entered the room walking over the flaming symbols seemingly unaffected. He seemed bent on obtaining the [Stygian Shard]. The crew attacked him to try and stop him from getting there, but the massive bodily harm they were doing didn’t seem to faze him at all. However, he eventually collapsed and a creepy entity flowed out of him and reached for the crew before disappearing.

Carter Altman then hacked the computers and broadcast his voice across the station speaking the demon’s name and releasing it from the ritual which then dissipated.
After retrieving the [Stygian Shard] the crew was ready to go, but saw that the door they came in was now guarded. So, they created a hole in the wall and headed back towards their ship.
As they were traveling Gearalt Rowan noticed that the bucket he was holding the shard in was getting very cold so he passed it to Raugraf Ordulf.
