Shadows in the Void
The Reactor is a relic of early space exploration. Located on a barren planet it stands half a mile high and three miles long. It was created by a ‘visionary’ genius and backed by one of the early space exploration companies. The genius, whose name is now forgotten, believed that he knew could create faster than light travel that didn’t use the gates or travel through the Dismal Void and all it’s mind altering vastness. He said he just needed a massive power supply to test his theory.
Most people avoid the Reactor and it’s system due to the infrequent, but crippling radiation it spews out. How it works, if it is finished or even working as intended is a mystery and is likely to remain so. Around 50 years ago The Marlan University sent an expedition to determine how it worked and if it could be used as a power source. After four months they had some preliminary results that seemed positive and claimed they could predict when the radation surges were coming. Two months later they were proved wrong when a massive radiation surge hit and crippled their ship and killed the team. Despite the promising results and the tantalizing fact that it is still running after all these years no follow up expedition has been sent.
